fabric printing workshop

In this exciting workshop, we will be creating our own designs and printing onto fabric. We will start by looking at examples of printed textiles, the blocks used to make them and the basic principles of textile printing and how this differs from printing onto paper.

I will teach you how to use basic lino cutting tools to carve lino blocks safely and we will familiarize ourselves with the tools by mark making on some practice pieces. Then we will sketch and refine a simple design and learn how to transfer this onto a block. You do not need to be an experienced artist or designer, or be able to draw, in fact some of the most effective designs are very simple!

After carving your block, you will learn how to roll out the fabric ink and we will make some test prints. Then we will be ready to print our final pieces! By the end of the workshop, you will have printed an item such as a tote bag, a napkin or a length of fabric to take home.

Time: 4 hours, 1 pm - 5 pm
Cost: $130 per person
Max: 4 people

*All materials and use of all the tools and press are included in the cost of the workshop. Tea, coffee and light snacks are provided.
